Go watch Spike Jonze’s new short film I’m Here here.
So I was reading on a blog about Spike Jonze’s career and I’ve noticed some odd similarities between him and me. I’ve been interesting in the types of things he’s been doing his whole career without really being conscious of it. He was a skateboard photographer for Transworld (a skateboarding magazine) and did some BMX pictures as well. At this time I was about 10 or 12 and obsessed with extreme sports. I had a subscription to a skateboard magazine, would go to the X-Games (when it was in Philly for 2 years) and would pretend I was athletic. He also worked on Jackass, the MTV show. When I was younger my friends and I videotaped ourselves doing stupid stunts. Although I’m sure a lot of kids did that. Then Spike has gone on to create music videos for my favorite band at one point, Weezer (massive fan is more accurate) and created some amazing movies which I love including Being John Malkovitch, Where The Wild Things Are and no this new short film.
Oh, and the music video for LCD Soundsystem’s “Drunk Girls”. I don’t like the song (or band) too much but the video is hella fun.
I’m not saying anything really meaningful with this post but I thought it was an interesting parallel.
